A source close to RIM has confirmed that the company has already started working on making Apple TV’s next rival, a media hub with a code name “BlackBerry Cyclone”.
“We have confirmed with one of our source’s RIM is working on just that a media hub. The media hub’s code-name is ‘BlackBerry Cyclone’.
“We are hearing the release of the ‘BlackBerry Cyclone’ will be later this fall. We are waiting for more info to come in at this time. This is going to be a great product for streaming media,”.
In addition to this, the reports also say the ‘BlackBerry Cyclone’ will use Wi-Fi for network connectivity and the users will be able to connect it to their home TVs via HDMI and enjoy online video content by accessing Youtube and Netflix which offers online DVD and Blu-ray.
“… the ‘BlackBerry Cyclone’ will be Wi-Fi-enabled and connect to your home TV via HDMI. It will also have Netflix, YouTube and access to media devices on the WiFi network.”
This is not the first time when RIM is trying challenge Apple’s supremacy, the company has been trying to compete with the Cupertino empire by trying different products. RIM previously tried to rival iPhone with ‘BlackBerry Storm’ and for Apple’s iPad, they made ‘PlayBook’ which apparently turned into a fiasco.
